Introduction to Poker Tournaments

Poker tournaments are the most exciting form of online gambling. When played properly, they can be very profitable as well. Online poker rooms are now offering poker tournaments online for as little as a $5 buy-in all the way up to hundreds of dollars depending on how high of stakes you want to play for. Be sure that if your playing in online poker tournaments that your playing at a poker room that is legit and endorsed by industry insiders such as us here at Poker-Times.com. Most online poker rooms are legit, however it's always safe to get a second opinion as you would with any other major decision you make in life. Let's dig a bit deeper into the world of online poker tournaments!

Tournaments are exciting and can be very profitable. We've found that while most online poker players have a strategic gameplan, many can be outlasted. Our favorite thing to do is play in No Limit Hold'em tournaments (10 man tournaments) in which we buy in for $100 + $9. The $100 stands for the amount you have to buy in for, the $9 is a non refundable fee that you pay the poker room for hosting the game. (Must be nice to be a poker room eh?) Ten players each pitch in their 100 bucks. This gives you a pot of $1000 in which there will be payouts to the top three finishers. 1st place usually gets 50% ($500), 2nd place usually gets 30% ($300), and the 3rd place finisher gets 20% ($200). Our strategy here is that a slow drip fills the bucket. We're more than happy to do anything we can to get into the money. Our method in doing so is to play in no limit games in which if your patient, you will see guys doing ridiculous things such as going all in after the hole cards are dealt (pre flop) and often times a few go bust early on in the game. Keeping with the strategy, your only going to want to play good sets of hole cards. What your really doing is trying to play as sparsely as possible so you can let others beat themselves so you can slip into the final three and get in the money. You will indeed have some good opportunities to play a hand, but in this case less is more. Its tough to do, but if you can master it, 10 man mini tournaments can and will be very profitable to you!

Almost all online poker rooms with serious mass (tons of players) offer these mini-tourneys (also called sit and goes) 24 hours a day. We actually know people that do this for a living using the above listed technique. Just remember, patience is virtue!

Now that we've talked about online poker tournaments and a bit of strategy. Lets talk about who has the best, the most, and the ones that run the most often....
