- CROWN Casino is negotiating with a US TV production
company to host one of the world's richest poker tournaments. It
is believed a prize pool up to $10 million could be offered as part
of the No-limit Texas Hold'em championship in January. Crown has
begun transforming its existing poker room into a world-class venue
with TV studios, commentary facilities and viewing platforms. More
than 500 of the world's top players, including newly crowned Australian
world champion Joe Hachem, will be invited to the casino.
- World Poker Exchange announced today that two
additional celebrity poker enthusiasts, Jennifer Tilly, winner of
the 2005 World Series of Poker Women's Tournament, and John McCririck,
will join Mimi Rogers, Willie Garson and Nicholas Gonzalez at the
August 3-6, 2005 World Poker Exchange London Open. These representatives
will be among an international array of glamorous film and television
performers, musicians, athletes and world-renowned poker players
who will compete aggressively for the $2 million jackpot in the
first-of-its-kind lifestyle poker event.
- The Small Town Poker Tour is set to find the
best amateur poker player in the United States and gives all of
the money it raises to the local charities of the hosting towns.
"We want the money to stay local. Our goal is to make this a fundraising
machine for the towns we visit," said executive producer Mark Fracalossi.
The first season of the show will hit Vermont, Maine, New York,
Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, Mississippi,
Texas, California, and Washington. According to Fracalossi, "Anyone
with a state driver's license or I.D. may play."
