Johnny Moss won 2 world series of poker championships and in the first world series of poker was voted the champion. So in all he won a total of 3 world series of poker championships (including the one that was voted). In all he won 8 bracelets from 1970 thru 1995 for 7 card stud, no limit hold’em and Ace to Five Draw. In 1995 he did not compete for the first time in the world series of poker due to fatigue.
At the age of 10 Johnny played his first hand of poker. Moss learned for a bunch of cheats and it taught him what to look for. That really helped him shortly there after because as a teen he made a living for 2 years cleaning up dirty games. Making 10 to 20 dollars a day he would watch and learn many strategies that later would help him become one of the best poker players of his time.
Moss' best friend from childhood Benny Binion arranged the Moss versus Nick the Greek match, In the front lobby of his Horseshoe club. In 1949, the Greek, wowing Vegas with his extravagant wagers, told Benny Binion he was looking for someone who might fancy a $250,000 no-limit poker contest. Binion thought Johnny Moss was the best poker player in the world, perhaps the only man fit to gamble with Dandalos for what was then a huge sum. Close to five months, and between 2 and 4 million dollars later, Dandalos conceded. "Mr. Moss," the Greek said, "I must let you go."
Those who knew moss have said “If you haven’t lost to Johnny Moss, You haven’t played poker.” In 1979 he was enshrined at the Binion’s poker hall of fame as a charter member. In hold’em an A 10 in your hold cards is called a Johnny Moss. And moss once said “I never felt sorry for the losers”
