Johnny Chan
Johnny Chan, one of few players to win the WSOP twice or more,
was nicknamed "The Orient Express" and gained his fame
by winning the 1987 and 1988 World Series of Poker in back to back
fashion by upsetting Erik Seidel in a hand of poker that ended up
making a movie which was to be called "Rounders." The
amazing thing about his second win was that he had lost the biggest
pot in WSOP Tourney history and then came back to win the whole
thing.
Chan came storming back in 1989 as well as a threat to win the
World Series Poker for a third straight time but his effort was
thwarted by a cocky young poker player named Phil Hellmuth who no
pun intended has gone on to become a "hell" of a poker
player.
Outside the poker room Chan boasts owning multiple houses, fancy
cars (one with a license plate reading 333JJ) and it's said that
Johnny has cashed in for over 50 million in poker winnings. Chan
hasn't hit the big one lately, but his run back in the late eighties
was legendary and surely enough to classify him as a poker legend
and one of the best to ever sit at the table.
Chan, who still is feared by many, is the all time money winner
in the World Series of Poker and was inducted into the Poker Hall
of Fame in 2002.
