Annie Duke is said to be one of the best Women's poker players in the world, if not THE best. Duke, who hails from Concord, New Jersey, started out playing cards at a young age with her family. While you may assume that she wanted to be a pro poker player since she was a kid, this wasn't hte case as she attented prestigious Columbia University and majored in English & Psychology.
After many years of education, Annie Duke decided that the education path was not for her. Duke a very sharp and intellectual person, started picking up on the pro game while watching brother Howard play in New York poker rooms and later at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Duke later moved to Montana where she decided to start playing for real money using lessons brother Howard had taught her.
In 1994, brother Howard talked Annie into enrolling to play in the World Series of Poker. Annie nailed down 13th place in her first tournament and third in her second poker tournament. She then decided to play poker on a pro level and moved to Las Vegas along with her family.
Since that time, many have dubbed Annie as one of the best women poker players in the world and THE best women to play in the World Series of Poker. According to Binions Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas, Annie Duke has become the most successful female player in the history of the World Series of Poker, earning more than $500,000 with 21 cashes and 11 final tables in 8 years of play. We expect that Annie will continue to be a force for many years to come as well!
