2005 WSOP WinnerWelcome the New Reigning King: 2005 WSOP Winner Joe Hachem by Don Lewis of Poker-Times.com
Well, at 7am Saturday morning it finally happened, we crowned a new king of poker. Joe Hachem won 7.5 million dollars at the World Series of Poker and is the 2005 winner. A record field of 5619 players entered the WSOP main event, a $10,000 buy-in no limit event.
Hachem, the champ, is from Australia and is a chiropractor! Yeah, you heard me right a chiropractor. In an interview he said "I can tell you I've made more money this week than in many years of fixing people's backs."
While at the final table he got a nickname and we don’t know if it will stick but “oi oi oi” Hachem is what the commentators were calling him. Joe Hachem is 39 years old, a father of 4 and has no immediate plans. Being on top of the poker world, he did have a lot of work ahead of him from day one. That work consisted of 8 days and over 96 hours of playing poker with some of the strongest players in the world such as names like Russell "the Muscle" Salzer, Thomas "Bobcore" Olavsrud from Norway and last years WSOP Champion Greg "Fossil Man" Raymer.
We wish to welcome the new champ and congratulate Steve Dannenmann as well as he was the runner up taking home over 4 million in coin. Congrats guys and good luck next year!
