2005 WSOP Main Event Update
Welcome to the WSOP Main Event, Thanks for Coming We’ll See You Next Year
Your ticket has been punched and your money has been paid and
after day 1 which took 3 days to complete, nearly two thirds of
the field was sent packing. At the end of the day Sammy Farha was
really the only notable close to the top as he was in second with
156,000+ in chips.
Yet with the huge influx of internet players it really isn’t surprising
that so many great players have been eliminated, and that list is
huge... Jennifer Harman, Kathy Liebert, Annie Duke, Cyndy Violette,
Evelyn Ng and former World Series of Poker Champions Chris Moneymaker
(2003), Robert Varkonyi (2002), Bobby Baldwin (1978) and Dan Harrington
(1995) all have fallen to poor cards and lackluster play.
Internet players have accounted for nearly 4000 players of the
5,619 entrants and have undoubtedly taken the WSOP by storm. The
question that comes to mind is will another "known" pro win?
The 2005 batch of internet players are fearless and relentless
in there assault on the poker world. They have no fear going all-in
on a pocket pair of 6’s etc.
So guys, watch out! The new guy we see on TV that makes the 7.5
million for winning this year may yet again be another internet
player.
However, we do have some hope for the pros and they rest in a
short list but what a list that it is including Greg "Fossilman"
Raymer is 9th in chips, Huck Seed, Phil
Ivey, Howard Lederer and Sam Farha. All 5 are alive and well
as day 3 of the tournament starts and only 560 players make money.
As we begin day 3, we have 568 active so play will begin in "hand
by hand mode." That means all players have to finish one hand before
another hand can be played. This is to determine which player is
eliminated first and so one table doesn’t play 20 hands and another
table only plays 3. Stay tuned for more WSOP updates to be posted soon!
